Steve serves the business as Global COO.
He learned his trade in a full-service ad agency environment (BMP/ DDB). And, he's a firm believer in, and propagator of, creativity. He is as interested in the message quality or creative idea, as how communications planning, data and technology can create a breakthrough consumer connection.
Steve is obsessed - in a good way - about nurturing conditions whereby people can seed and grow ideas. Leading amazing people, building strong teams, driving impactful creativity, get him up early. Steve has always subscribed to a people-first philosophy, believing that a creative and respectful culture produces results in business.
Steve career journey began at Bates, with time at Leagas Delaney, Yellowhammer, Lintas Sydney, BBDO and BMP along the way. Steve’s career has taken him from TV buyer, to media planner, to head of investment, to regional CEO, and now global COO at Essence.
Committed to help raise industry standards, Steve is chair of the 4A’s Media Leadership Council in the USA [previously having help the same position at the IPA in the UK], and an active 4A's board member.
He loves spending time with the work and is a frequent judge for awards events both locally and globally.
He is married to Suzanne, his much smarter half, and has four (two of his own making) incredible kids. And a dog, Fitzgerald.
