Garrick Schmitt leads Essence's global creative practice and oversees our efforts to make advertising more personally relevant, contextual, and valuable to people and the brands who seek to engage them. With studios in London, San Francisco, Seattle and Singapore, Garrick's teams craft both programmatic advertising and custom content programs, at scale, for clients across the entire Essence portfolio.
Prior to Essence, Garrick co-founded Junior, a product and brand innovation studio based in San Francisco. From machine learning and bots to VR and wearables, they invented new products and experiences for such companies as eBay, Nokia, NFL Amnesty International and Mozilla and our client work was featured in FastCompany, Wired, TechCrunch, Adweek, AdAge and Bloomberg.
Before Junior, he spent over a decade at Razorfish. First heading up User Experience across North America, then the Strategy and Experience Planning practices across the West Coast. He eventually became the Managing Director of the San Francisco office where he was responsible for driving client growth, strategy and innovation with a team of 250+ people. During his time at Razorfish, he was fortunate enough to work with a very talented group of people on defining large-scale digital experiences for brands like T-Mobile, Toyota, Nike, Intel, Best Buy, Williams-Sonoma, Sony, Wells Fargo, PayPal, and many others.
Prior to Razorfish, Garrick focused on building products for digital media companies, including localized broadband content offerings for Cox Interactive Media and Excite @Home and search services for CNET’s Search.com and Snap.com, an early rival to AOL.
