About the Role:

The Media Buyer plays an integral role supporting the Universal team across all aspects of the discipline. Job responsibilities include the ownership of plan and budget data as it relates to assigned titles, the management of plan changes, and general maintenance of activity and its effect on all related outputs, including communication to implementation teams.

The Media Buyer is responsible for negotiating, buying and maintaining national broadcast media schedules, ensuring that final buys deliver on the approved plan objective and strategy.

The Media Buyer will also provide recommendations on how competitive activities can be exploited to our clients’ advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Upfront buying and execution of scatter/short term/opportunistic needs
  • Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of broadcast media
  • Effectively uses agency tools to aid in plan development
  • Assist in developing analysis and related reports pertaining to KPIs
  • Assist Manager in training and productivity of Planning/Buying Assistant(s)
  • Prepare, check, verify and issue analysis including on-going maintenance
  • Oversee the resolution of billing discrepancies
  • Assist Manager in all phases of account/client management
  • Create PowerPoint presentations
  • Develop a deeper understanding of client needs and strategy
  • Learn to manage and build client relationships (when at Senior level)
  • Analyse media alternatives to recommend how to best allocate the advertising budget
  • Manage day to day plan changes/maintenance of media plans
  • Facilitate competitive analysis
  • Develop agency points of view on media opportunities for submission to the client
  • Play a key role in the budget and client billing process to ensure accuracy
  • Write and maintain status and contact reports to ensure efficient workflow to meet deadlines
  • Acts as a positive role model through example

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Compile and analyse marketing and media data to support implementation decisions
  • Search for unique sources of information to support non-traditional recommendations
  • Attend mandatory Agency Training and client specific/departmental meetings
  • Keep abreast of industry trends through trade journals, industry workshops/seminars and track current events
  • Participate in creative brainstorm sessions

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year as a Planning and/or Buying Assistant

Knowledge

  • Demonstrates understanding of media basics and concepts
  • Possess a desire to understand the broader media landscape and its impact on video campaigns and strategies
  • Knowledge of Infosys and BBM
  • Working knowledge of Syndicated tools (PMB, Evaliant, Xpert, Comscore, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)

Qualities:

  • Digitally Savvy: Personally uses digital social media, demonstrates passion about emerging media, Google Analytics, Google Images, ability to search and research topics, etc.
  • Interest in video disciplines (traditional, digital, etc.)
  • Interest in emerging technologies and the burgeoning video ecosystem
  • Thrives in team environment
  • Entertainment industry experience
  • Passion for movie/entertainment industry, avid movie-goer
