About the role

The Group Planning Director is the key liaison between the client, the comms planning team, the planning team, investment team and the media community providing leadership, strategic direction and input for the media and business plans. The Group Planning Director effectively leverages experience; knowledge and skills to push innovative thinking and set inspiring and challenging team goals and objectives balancing client, company and team needs.

This role also requires coordination and on-going communication with the Communications Planning Director to build holistic marketing campaigns across client, planning, search/social and implementation teams.

Some of the things we’d like you to do:

  • Voice a strong POV, based on client objectives, media knowledge & communication goals
  • Steward client relationship in a hands-on manner
  • Lead and manage all strategic channel planning activities
  • Lead development of planning objectives and strategies that align with the client’s marketing direction
  • Work with Comms Planning leadership to actively incorporate connection planning into client planning process/Lead workshops in Facilitator role
  • Work with Investment Teams & media partners to develop first-to-market ideas
  • Establish and grow a strong relationship with the client through a demonstration of industry knowledge and of the client’s basic business issues
  • Steward relationship with outside agency partners (creative, organic social, promotion, etc.)
  • Ensure appropriate media tools are being used
  • Manage and mentor strategy team ensuring all team members are delegated work appropriate for their level and experience and that the team remains challenged and engaged
  • Understand client compensation structure and implications of plan changes
  • Acts as a positive role model through example
  • Work with analytic partners to gauge media performance and KPI’s to determine the extent to which the original objectives and strategies were met
  • Challenge convention, inspire innovation & sell great ideas
  • Attend client specific and departmental meetings
  • Attend mandatory Agency Training
  • Continually improve team operations
  • Facilitate and participate in creative brainstorm sessions
  • Participate in New Business
  • Proactively keep abreast of industry trends and share knowledge with team

  • Strong Account Service qualities and client handling skills
  • Digitally Savvy: Personally uses digital and social media, demonstrates passion about emerging media, ability to search and research topics, etc
  • Thrives in fast paced environment
  • Positive energy and ability to produce high volume of work, quickly
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Has a strong, vocal presence in client meetings
  • Demonstrates relentless curiosity
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Be a team leader but is able to showcase fundamentals and train the team
  • Ability to promote a collaborative culture
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Experience in Media Planning across a range of media (TV – National and Local, Radio, Print, Digital, OOH, Social, etc.)
  • Minimum 3 years as Associate Media Director or similar experience
  • Deep understanding of media trends
  • Proven ability to delegate work, mentor, and manage a team of 10 or more staff
