Essence Names Maureen Morrison SVP of Global Marketing and Communications

GroupM’s Essence is thrilled to announce that Maureen Morrison is joining the agency as SVP-Global Marketing and Communications. 

In her role, she will oversee the agency’s marketing, communications, content and editorial products across its 23 offices in 14 countries. As part of the agency’s executive team, she will work with global leadership and in tandem with business development, the talent teams and regional leaders to drive growth with clients, thought leadership, recruitment, and develop industry relationships. Morrison will also work with Essence’s clients, which include Google, NBCUniversal and Target, on messaging and launch strategies. She replaces Sam Weston, who moved earlier in 2021 to join GroupM's global marketing and communications team.

Morrison comes to Essence after running her own strategic advisory firm, where she worked with clients on brand positioning, partnerships, and editorial content and communications strategies. During her time consulting, she worked with more than 40 companies, including startups and agencies across digital media, publishing, advertising, entertainment, sustainability, privacy, e-commerce and more. Previously, she was a longtime journalist at Ad Age, covering agencies, digital advertising, telecom, and food marketing.
